The work of Stefanie Schneider oscillates between fiction and reality. She is staging herself in film still like sequences which often contain a whole group of images. Thus and with the aesthetic of expired Polaroid's she evokes reminiscences of faded American myths.
Her series "Wasteland" shows a young woman, whose life gets off track after her meeting with of a young man. Stefanie Schneider is telling a story of old customs, new pleasures, risks, violence, lust and change. In an extraordinary and almost laconic way "Wastelands" tells a new interpretation of the old theme of becoming adult.
