The 13,100 kilometers of German Autobahn are a unique place. It stretches from the North Sea to the Alps, from the Rhine in the West to the Oder in the East. It can be found in all major cities and in the most remote province. As the monumental building of the Germans, it represents and endows German culture. About a third of its length was designed and built before and during National Socialism, and in 1974 "Kraftwerk" composed a monument to it. Abroad it stands for "No Speed Limit" and for German engineering. The users, on the other hand, experience traffic jams, queues of trucks and flashing pushers.

Before the image on our motorways is radically changed in the next few years by electric cars, car sharing and automated driving, Jörg Brüggemann once again records how extensively the combustion engine has shaped the mobility of the 20th century. For his photo project, Brüggemann spent five years driving on and along German motorways. Through the seasons he travelled next to and on them and photographed them. In doing so, he created a pictorial contemporary document of Germany and its Autobahn - this huge carpet of asphalt and concrete that has been woven over the landscape.

Mi Madre Tiene Novio (My mother has a boyfriend) accompanies the Autobahn project independently. It is an intimate and silent reflection on travel and the way to a loved one who seems to be unreachable.
