Chernobyl is the name of a small city in the Ukraine which everybody knows. Twenty five years ago it became notorious for the biggest civilian nuclear catastrophy. Today the melt down of Block 4 of the nuclear power plant is surrounded by a 20 mls wide "zone", an area which is prohibited to the public. Andrej Krementschouk a young russian photographer explored the "zone", met their inhabitants and documented the traces of their lifes. The city of Prypjat is demolished, abandoned and sunk into a neverending sleep. The villages seem to be overpowered by nature which crawls over the relicts of the civilization. But people are living in the middle of this devastation. People who cannot afford to find another place to live than the one they owned already before April 26th 1986. They demonstrate to us how precious their homeland and its beauty is and that there is almost nothing which takes away their will to protect it.
